Don't wait until you feel 'thirsty'. If you are thirsty you are most certainly not taking in enough water.
Although water contains no calories and may have no nutrients, it is essential for life. We can survive for weeks without food, but only a matter of days without water. Because we do not store excess water, we must ensure that our daily diet contains a sufficient supply to maintain adequate health. My rule of thumb on ... drink one half your weight (in ounces) each day .... or .... if you weight 150 lbs, drink 75 ounces of water per day. Evenly disburse your water intake over your waking hours, and be sure you are eliminating regularly through the day. Don't count other beverages, in this calculation, drink 75 ounces of pure, clear, clean non chlorinated water each day. You may consider eliminating carbonated beverages from your diet, carbonated beverages have excess sugar and caffeine.
The human body is about 70 percent water. Different parts of the body have different concentrations of water. Blood is about 90 percent water, the brain is about 85 percent water, muscles are about 72 percent water, and fat is about 15 percent water. Men .... Your bodies contain more muscle mass, thus, you have more water in your bodies than women. (one of the reasons Men show quick results with diets). For everyone, it performs various functions in the body: it carries nutrients through the system, lubricates joints, transports waste, and keeps the skin supple. If the kidneys don't get enough fluid, the liver stops metabolizing fat and starts filtering waste. If the intestines do not get enough, they pull what they need from the cells in the bowel, causing constipation.
Clients frequently comment that it is difficult to drink approx 8 glasses of water each day. Here are a few solutions:
- Fill a pitcher every morning with your required amount of water and finish it by day's end.
- Keep a bottle or glass of water in your car, at your desk, on the kitchen counter, at your bedside and wherever you spend a lot of time and be sure to sip it throughout the day.
- Include a glass of water at every meal (three glasses are already accounted for).
Stay properly hydrated for a healthy body. As always, Live your life in Balance and Harmony, Be Happy and Be Healthy.
People with kidney problems or other conditions were fluid intake needs to be limited should follow their doctor’s recommendations with correct sodium intake. One potential but rare side effect of fluid intake can be hypoatremia in which electrolytes become imbalanced. Always seek advice from your doctor before trying any new diet or changing eating / drinking habits!.
